Art Explorations: Pigments of my imagination is a celebration of the multi-talented and creative genius of artist Shirley Mc Daniel, who works across multiple forms and styles of art – painter, collagist, mixed-media, objet trouvé (found object creator) digital artist.

This book explores Shirley’s different styles of painting, comparing some which have been created in multiple styles. The evolution to digital art is able to transform all kinds of art into a newly formed version which can only exist electronically and not in physical form.

“Creating this book has generated a heightened awareness of my work in entirety . . .recognising a continuity and cohesion at core level between the various pieces. eg as in my application of collaged paper, in which my colour usage is often densely integrated thus becoming almost painterly in its cohesion and the digital pictures bear a certain fluidity of colour and line intrinsic to my paintings . . .

Reflecting on the various art forms bound together within this book has created a new found clarity for me, a linking and connectedness, etched in a blending of colour form and line which are now more apparent to me. Thus crystallising an awareness on which to further build a newfound energy and direction has emerged.”

Shirley Mc Daniel has had the opportunity to devote the majority of her time to painting, which has enabled her to build up a substantial body of work.Their subject matter frequently incorporates images of women, symbolising for her, a larger sort of “human connectedness.”
